If you have spent some time on the website of our wholesaler, you have definitely come across Chanel type fabrics. What are they? Why such a name associated with luxury? We decided to bring the fabrics and materials of the Channel a little closer.
In short, it's nothing more than soft tweed. It owes its name to the famous French fashion designer, Coco Chanel. The main period of her activity was the middle of the twentieth century, and Coco especially loved woolen tweed. The talented designer, however, proposed tweed in her own unique style. And it turned out to be a hit. She introduced an original and elegant pattern to the mass consciousness. Chanelka fabric, from which jackets for women are made, is today synonymous with elegance, taste and high quality.
How did chanel fabrics become so popular?
Coco Chanel designed based on soft tweed in the early 50s of the twentieth century. The original design assumed a very simple cardigan, with a semicircular neckline and four pockets in two rows. The pockets were not sewn up so that they could be used comfortably. Apparently, Coco Chanel decided that the fate of women is difficult enough and the last thing they should expect from clothing is frustration.
Feminine and functional clothes
This idea also betrays the philosophy behind Coco's designs – clothes that are thoroughly feminine, elegant, attractive, but even for a moment they do not cease to be functional. This was also her jacket – complemented by trimming, often in a contrasting color, and decorated with a silk lining. Already at that time, the American style had a significant impact on fashion. This one represented a slightly different mentality of American women – mini skirts were popular, which in Europe was considered moderately decent at the time.
Pioneer Coco Chanel and her "chanelka" fabric
Coco Chanel was also critical of this type of fashion, but she understood the need for simple and comfortable clothes. She proposed her own idea – a jacket with soft knee-length skirts or trousers. The boxy cut was to make the whole stylization wear comfortably, while remaining elegant. And that was a breakthrough.
Coco Chanel was also a pioneer in another respect – until now, tweed was the domain of men's clothing. These were to be characterized by durability, minimalism and the aforementioned functionality. The designer, inspired by men's fashion, decided to transfer its advantages to women's clothes. We must remember that the period of Coco's activity coincided with social changes in Western societies, which also had a huge resonance in fashion.
And how did the designer herself dress in chanel fabrics ? She preferred a chanel jacket, obligatory with pencil skirts to the knees.
What can Chanel material be used for?
Chanelka fabric combines all the advantages of wool and tweed, and for this it is enriched with a characteristic pattern. It is a beautiful material, clearly associated with elegance. In addition, airy, safe and pleasant to the skin and hypoallergenic. In general, chanelka serves as a material for jackets and jackets. However, this does not mean that it can only be worn on official occasions. If you are looking for ideas on how to use chanel fabrics, below are a few of them.
