Types of knitted fabrics and their use

As autumn approaches, the days get shorter and colder. This means that we need warmer clothes, and for them a great material is knitwear. They are slightly different from fabrics, but they have their advantages – they are elastic, stretchy, airy and very soft.

Knitwear works very well as a material for a sweater or cardigan for wrapping in colder days. However, it turns out that knitwear comes in different types: cotton, woolen, sweater, sweatshirt. And each of them you can find in our wholesale.

What is the difference between knitted fabric and fabric?

The difference can be known by the names themselves – the knitwear is "knitted" and the fabric is "woven". The difference lies in the method of production – the method of weaving threads. Fabric is interwoven interpendicular threads of yarn, which we call weft and warp. Knitwear is formed from one thread, which is formed into eyelets and forms perpendicular rows fused together. The production of knitted fabric is a bit like crocheting or knitting.

Types of knitwear – sweater, wool, sweatshirt, cotton and others

Depending on what type of knitwear we choose, it has a slightly different characteristic and application. We will briefly tell you about the most important of them.

Jersey knitwear

This is a particularly stretchy variety, because it contains elastane in its composition. It works very well as a material for dresses, blouses, leggings and sweaters.

Knitted viscose

It is characterized by breathability – it is relatively thin and rather cool. It works well on warmer days and is worn comfortably. Knitted viscose works very well as a material for dresses or blouses, but also tunics and leggings. The whole is complemented by a delicate, characteristic shine. It occurs in many patterns, because it is susceptible to staining.

Knitted sweater

This is a classic knitwear, from which thicker sweaters are usually made. Ideal for autumn and winter. On the one hand, it is a soft material, pleasant to the touch and comfortable. On the other hand, it provides air circulation and belongs to those breathing. This makes the knitted sweater protect against the cold and at the same time provides comfort of wearing. It generally comes in solid colors.

Wool knitwear

Wool is associated with a fluffy and cold-protecting material. Wool knitwear is also like that. Warm and cozy. Depending on the selected fibers – more precisely their length, thickness and a certain roughness – wool knitwear can scratch a little. If we want to choose the most pleasant variety for the skin – we definitely recommend cashmere.

Sweatshirt knitwear

Colloquially called a tracksuit is a very graceful material for learning to sew. Beginners like to work on it, because it is not particularly demanding in terms of machining. It has all the advantages of other knitwear – durability, protection against cold, softness, skin friendliness. It will be distinguished by comfort – it is light and great for clothes for work, hiking or sports. Both for adults and for children.

Knitted micromodal

This type of knitwear is made using cellulose fibers, derived from beech wood. The fibers from which the yarn is produced are extremely delicate. This makes the micromodal knitted fabric very soft and at the same time surprisingly resistant to damage. The color retains its durability for a long time and the knitwear breathes.

Cotton knitwear

Classic knitwear made of classic raw material. It has what we love about cotton – softness, pleasure to the touch, durability and functionality of use. It is also a material that beginners in sewing like. Cotton knitwear is suitable for many applications. It serves as a material for clothes, curtains, cloths and other everyday objects. In our warehouse, it is available both in uniform colors and decorated with patterns.

Microfiber knitwear

Microfiber, like cellulose, is a very thin but durable fiber. Already at the production stage, it is designed for specific applications. The size and shape of synthetic fibres are important. Their selection depends on the properties of microfiber – such as softness, resistance, absorbency, waterproofness, electrostatic and filtration properties.
